Weekly Newsletter
Dear Parents, May 26, 2020
It is hard to believe that this is the last week of school. It has been an honor and privilege to be your child's teacher this year. It will be year that we will never forget! Thank you for sharing your child with me this year. I feel cheated in a way, that we didn't get to spend the last three month, doing the "end of the year" fun things, like going to the Sorrowful Mother Shrine and the Toledo Zoo. May God help the experts to develop a vaccine and put an end to this virus. May life go back to normal, but different. . . knowing that family is most important and that God is always with us!
God bless,
Mrs. Bogner
Dear Parents, May 17, 2020
Finally the weather is nice! And to think that a week ago Saturday it snowed!! Let's pray this weather stays and that the rain isn't too severe for the farmers. Please also keep in mind that you still have 11 school days left! Two more weeks of work to do! Two more weeks to turn assignments into the Google Classroom! During the last week of school, Mr Harrington will have "field day" and there will be an awards assembly on the last day. These are typical of any last week of school. The only difference is that students didn't have to help clean up the classroom. I have been working hard and have still a little bit more to do. Check the school website for the dates, times, and procedures for how to pick up your child's personal items. (Students will also need to return both Reading books.)
I am praying hard that the beginning of next school year will look like the beginning of last school year! We have to hope and pray it does! Faith over Fear!
Stay healthy and God bless,
Mrs. Bogner
Dear Parents, May 10, 2020
I appreciate all the patience that you gave me last week when it came to the Reading/ Language Arts assignment last week within the Google Classroom. I really don't know what happened!?! I watched more than one Youtube video to help make sure I was doing it correctly for this week! Let's pray all goes well. I'm not sure why the Spelling Words slide on the "Home Assignments" tab is a little off. When I downloaded what I had created to a PDF it looked fine. Then when I uploaded it to "Home Assignments" it looked wacky! Sorry about that!
Happy Mother's Day to all of you Moms out there! I pray that you are all doing well and that God blesses you on this day and always!
Please excuse my first attempt at the video you will see tomorrow within the Reading/Language Arts assignment on Google Classroom. It would appear that the assignment is shown twice. The first one is a video to explain what you are to do. The second one is where you can actually fill in the Venn Diagram yourself. The third attachment is the quiz (let's pray it works for everybody this time around). PLEASE DON'T FORGET TO TURN IN ASSIGNMENTS WITHIN THE GOOGLE CLASSROOM.
If you don't it will look as though you didn't do the assignment at all. On my end, I can see the work done and I can even give you a score, but Google Classroom will still say that you never "turned in" your assignment. And you want it to be turned in so that you get credit for it.
Stay home, Stay healthy, and God bless,
Mrs. Bogner
Dear Parents, May 1, 2020
It's hard to believe that May is already here! There is only one more month of on-line learning left! Let's pray that come August we will be able to go back to school. I think we'll all be a little bit more "tech" savvy. Students will know that the Chromebooks are not just for playing Prodigy or ABC ya! I am learning so much about how to use the "Classroom" and how to give digital tests, that I'm actually excited about using them in the upcoming school year!!
You probably notice that there is less work assigned than in previous weeks. We have been told that we are to give ONE assignment in each class AND that this assignment is not graded. This is because these are unusual circumstances. The students are not receiving direct instruction from me. It would not be fair to assess students in the usual way of tests and quizzes. Think of the activities as personal goals. Understand that although your child may be taking a QUIZ, it is not being recorded within my grade book that way. They are getting credit for what they have done ~~ that's it. But, as always, your child should put forth their best effort. This reminds me of when Fr. Phil was a substitute priest at a school Mass earlier this school year. He told the students that if they are given a task to remember the following 3 things: Do it immediately, do it well, and do it without complaining. This is what is meant by being obedient. This is also a good philosophy to live by. It instills good character. It promotes self-worth.
Once again, thank you parents for all you are doing to help your children through this difficult time. May is the month of the Rosary. May we turn to our Blessed Mother Mary for help and strength. Remember: Faith over Fear!
Stay home, stay healthy, and God bless,
Mrs. Bogner
Dear Parents, Apr. 26, 2020
I felt a great sadness when I heard last Monday that the governor was closing schools for the remainder of this school year. I try to look at the positive in regards to this situation . . . like my husband I take walks most days, I'm learning an IMMENSE amount about "Google Classroom" and technology in general. I guess it is possible to teach an old dog new tricks!
I hope that the assignments for this week are easier to complete. Mrs. Wilde and Youtube helped me to (hopefully) allow you to write on the page given. You will not need to send any photos or open a new document to complete answers. Now if I did it incorrectly and you can't write on the page, please let me know ASAP and I will try to fix the problem.
Thanks to all the parents who are guiding your children on how to complete things within the Google Classroom. Thanks to Mrs. Rizzo for putting out that video on how to submit Religion assignments. This is how you are to submit all assignments. Without a student in school anymore, I wasn't sure what you were seeing on your end. I almost wanted to add myself as a student to the class. Next year, we've been told that each student in grades 4, 5, and 6 will have their own Chromebook! No more sharing for you big fourth graders!
I pray that all is well for everyone. May God bless all those who are helping those with the virus and those who are trying to develop a vaccine. May we get back to being able to see one another (not just 6 feet away), and without wearing a mask. It will always be a good idea to wash our hands, though!
Stay home, stay healthy, and God bless,
Mrs. Bogner
Dear Parents, Apr. 19, 2020
I don't know how many of you will visit this page, but in case you do, I just wanted to have it updated. You should go to "Google Classroom" from now on. You will be able to see the REQUIRED ASSIGNMENTS that need to be completed by next week. You can still go to the "Home Assignments" tab above and you will find suggestions for other subjects. You will also find the same slides for Reading, Grammar, and Math that are found on the "Google Classroom." You will need to complete them while on "Google Classroom" so that you can submit them to me and I can give you a grade on them.
Stay home, stay healthy, and God Bless,
Mrs. Bogner
Dear Parents, Apr. 6, 2020
This will be the last week that you will need to visit my "home assignments" page as after taking Easter Break during the week of Apr. 13~17, all teachers are to place assignments on Google Classroom. Your child will be able to get to "Google Classroom" when they open their email. There is an array of a 3 x 3 square of 9 dots on the upper right side. Click on it and locate "Google Classroom." You might need to click on the "More" button. I have already signed up for a Google Classroom, and you can join at anytime, but please do so before Apr. 20th. Previously all assignments were merely suggestions. Now you will be expected to complete them. Nothing to worry about. We have been told to limit the assignments to only Reading/Language Arts and Math. You will also be given a week to complete each assignment. If you ever have any troubles, please email me. This is new for me, too. We'll learn together!
Stay home, stay healthy, and God Bless,
Mrs. Bogner
Dear Parents, Mar. 29, 2020
I have changed up the "Home Assignments" a bit. It's more like a Power Point with 12 sheets. You will find everything you need for the week on that Power Point. Links to Spelling City, as well as Epic and Freckle. Hopefully it will be easier for you. Let me know what you think.
Stay home! Stay healthy!
God Bless,
Mrs. Bogner

I don't want to erase the letter that I wrote on Mar. 16th, so if you keep scrolling down, you will be able to find that newsletter. I will probably not be updating this page for awhile. Instead you will find what you need on the tab above labeled "Home Assignments." I will update it each week on Sunday, and then tweak it each Wednesday. Technology and I have not always been friends, but I'm trying real hard to get to know him/her better! Initially this week, I didn't want to erase what I had put on my webpage from last week. (This is what I normally had done each week.) I saw that Mrs. Corrigan has all of her newsletters for the year posted. I reached out to her and she was able to help me. (Please keep her in your prayers.) Previously this morning I created a link but then found out I had to put in everybody's email addresses to allow them access to the letter. But now all you have to do is to click on the file on the left. You will still find the link on link on the right. Hopefully next week, all you will only see the file on the left with the next week's date. As always email me with any questions or concerns.
God bless,
Mrs. Bogner

Below is the letter that I sent home (paper copy) with all the students:
It has been an interesting week, and now we are in for an even more interesting upcoming three weeks. What can you do to help your child? At this point, I just want you to stay safe and healthy. I will be posting on my Website twice each week, starting next Monday, March. 16th. To access my website, go to the NCS school page, then Elementary Staff, and then to Teresa Bogner.
We as a staff have an inservice on Monday and may be given guidelines to put out there for our students. As of today we were asked to not send home any packets of papers to do. Those who go to Mrs. Byington were given a packet resource. They are not required to read over this packet, but strongly encouraged to do so. Keep in mind that you as a parent are the primary educator of your child, so listed below are a few suggestions to help your child during the next 3 weeks off:
**Have them read daily. They should spend as much time reading as they are on an electronic device. They went to the Library today and should have brought home some books to read. They have a Stomper Ticket that needs four books to be read. They can accomplish this now that they have time at home.
**Practice flashcards several times a week. Students will resume taking timed tests when we return to school.
**Encourage your child to keep their Lenten Promise that they made on Ash Wednesday. This is still Lent and we should all be saying extra prayers, fasting from something, and/or giving alms (helping the poor).
**Continue to work on Prodigy for a certain number of minutes each day.
**I will also have the students bring home their Reading books, and ask that they read the next few upcoming stories. Do not worry, they will not be required to take tests on them upon their return to school.
**Do approximately 4 Simple Solutions lessons each week ~~ both in Math and Grammar.
** Keep in mind that I will give other suggestions twice a week.

Most of all, let us continue to pray for those affected. Let us use good common sense by washing our hands often. Encourage your children to not touch their face (especially their mouth, nose, or eyes as this is how the virus enters our bodies). If blowing your nose, wash your hands or use hand sanitizer. Stay away from crowds.
God bless us in these uncertain times,
Mrs. Bogner
P.S. I will miss your children very much during this time off.
P.S.S. Please pray that we will be able to return to school as soon as possible. I'll never forget the ice storm of 1999. We were home from school for two weeks over the Christmas break. An ice storm hit Bellevue really hard the Sunday before we were to return to school. We were off of school for two additional weeks. I ventured out once to go to school (to do some work) and it was a big mistake. The parking lot was an ice skating rink and I started to slide into the building. I didn't go out again during those 2 weeks.
This event will definitely be one that the students will never forget. It will be something to tell their children and grandchildren! Once again, pray for those affected by this virus, as well as those who care for them.
God bless all,
Mrs. Bogner
